Interactive Digital P&IDs: Engineering Drawings Meet Live Asset Intelligence

Engineering drawings describe how a system fits together, but a static drawing cannot show the current status of every asset within it. When equipment changes or inspection information sits elsewhere, crews may need to search several records to understand what needs attention.

Heimdall Rig Protect’s Interactive Digital P&ID Builder connects customised Process & Instrumentation Diagrams directly to the equipment register. Operators can create diagrams inside Heimdall and link their symbols to live assets, turning the drawing into a practical interface for operational information.

Click the equipment to see its information

Linked components can display live red, amber and green compliance status, inspection due dates, maintenance history and asset details. Technical documents, OEM manuals, work orders and photographs remain connected to the equipment they support.

Instead of searching through a long equipment list, engineers can select the relevant component within the process diagram. A choke valve can lead to its inspection information, a pressure gauge to its certification, or a hose to the records behind an overdue inspection.

Bring system health into view

The diagram provides a visual route into the asset information. Maintenance teams can understand where equipment sits within a system, engineering teams can review system health, and management can identify areas requiring closer attention.

The aim is to move the conversation from finding an asset to understanding which equipment needs action, and why.

Built around real operating systems

Applications include choke manifolds, mud systems, cement units, fuel systems, hydraulic circuits, BOP control systems, cooling water systems, well test equipment and process plants.

By connecting the drawing to the underlying register, Heimdall helps crews and engineering teams work with the same equipment information in a form that reflects the systems they operate.

Keep the drawing connected to the asset lifecycle

An interactive P&ID is most useful when the linked records remain current. Bringing asset details, inspection evidence and maintenance history together supports clearer priorities and more informed operational decisions.
